Technical Assistance and Community Engagement Consultants
Passion. Experience. Empathy.
Calm Waters Group’s mission is based on the core concept that to make progress, communities and community based organizations need to have the training and background to actively engage in, and affect processes that impact their community - and that these communities have the knowledge and experience needed to make change. Our work starts by listening and building relationships.
We believe the most effective way to make change is to support the organizations already making the change through technical assistance, scientific analysis, engagement support, and strategic planning. We work with non-profits, large and small, governments and tribes.
Our experience has spanned across a number of regions, including the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Western, and Midwestern U.S and international experience in Costa Rica, Philippines, and Africa.

Areas of Practice
Nature-Based Planning
We have experience with baseline and post-restoration assessments of aquatic ecosystems to support the protection of key habitats and ecosystems. We believe that integral to this work is reciprocation and reparation with the earth and communities impacted by pollution and environmental damage.
Sustainability Planning and Policy Development
The field of sustainability is rapidly developing as the community strives to integrate social equity, We have experience working with non-profits, government agencies, and tribes on a range of sustainability planning projects. Our focus is on the integration and mainstreaming of climate change resilience, social equity, watershed planning, and nature based solutions into new and existing plans and programs.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
Our community engagement work begins with the concept that community members know what they need and what works more than anyone, and it ends with strategies to empower them to have their own voice in public policy.
We recognize that better solutions are achieved by working with stakeholder knowledge and expertise, and by building capacities within each stakeholder group to analyze and articulate their experiences and preferred interventions.
“In a few decades the relationship between the environment, resources, and conflict may seem almost as obvious as the connection we see today between human rights, democracy, and peace.” – Wangari Maathai
